Friday Funday

I came across this idea on GroopDealz today! It is something you could EASILY do as a DIY project instead of spending $12 on.

It is a Santa Key!

All you really need is a fun key - I'm sure you can find them at thrift stores or some craft stores- and then come up with some fun saying to put with it.

This is the example that they have with theirs:

If you have no chimney on Christmas Eve,

Awaiting the presents that Santa will leave,

Just hang this key by the door for him,

And all the gifts will be left within.

This is something that will come in handy I suppose when we have children. Currently we don't have a chimney, I am really hoping our next house will have one because the only thing I want more than a fireplace is a master bath! So fingers crossed I won't need this unless we are on vacation at Christmas one year!

Brown-Sugar Glazed Sweet Potatoes with Marchmallows

Last Friday I made these sweet potatoes! They were WONDERFUL, just what I wanted. They would be perfect for a holiday meal. I halved the recipe (actually I halved the potatoes and did 3/4 of the sauce, don't be tempted, it won't look like it will be enough, but it will. I promise) and it was a perfect amount for two, with a little leftovers. I used two rather large sweet potatoes.

Don't worry I didn't waste the extra sauce, I put it on ice cream and it was DELICIOUS!

Here you go!

Brown Sugar-Glazed Sweet Potatoes With MarshmallowsBon Appétit | November 1994

A Thanksgiving classic with a nineties twist. There are marshmallows and brown sugar to keep the youngsters happy, and "big kids" will like the addition of almonds and spices.

Yield: Serves 8

Description: ingredients

4 pounds red-skinned sweet potatoes (yams), peeled, cut into 1-inch pieces
2/3 cup packed golden brown sugar
5 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Pinch of ground ginger

2 cups miniature marshmallows
1/2 cup sliced almonds

Description: preparation

Preheat oven to 375°F. Arrange potatoes in 13 x 9 x 2-inch glass baking dish. Combine sugar, butter, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg and ginger in heavy small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Pour over potatoes; toss to coat. Cover dish tightly with foil.

Bake potatoes 50 minutes. Uncover; bake until potatoes are tender and syrup thickens slightly, basting occasionally, about 20 minutes. Increase oven temperature to 500°F. Top potatoes with marshmallows and nuts. Return to oven; bake until marshmallows begin to melt and nuts begin to brown, about 3 minutes.

Manic Monday

I'm going to try to post more, and my attempt to start that is with a new weekly Monday post. And because I am a product of the 80s, I'm going to call it Manic Monday, so I can dance to the song in my head.

This week my schedule isn't too bad! When I say that I usually know that I am missing something on my calendar and things will pop up before I know it!

Tuesday we are going to trek down south an hour and see my best friend Kristen's new baby boy, Caleb! SO exciting! I am also hoping for a little tutti frutti ice cream while there!

Sunday I am signing up for new member orientation at church. I'm sure more will come up

throughout the week but that's what I know about for now!

This weekend wasn't too exciting. We made a trip to one of our favorite restaurants that is a sushi/thai place in town, YUMMY. I can't get enough curry, seriously. Then it was the start of another AWESOME SIOUX hockey season. We got season tickets this year, so I am very excited. They were playing Regina this weekend for an exhibition game. Pretty big blowout!

Sunday was a little less exciting, I cleaned out the fridge and took Cooper to the dog park. Then I was officially a football widow for the first time! Ross didn't make it home until 11pm and I was fast asleep!

Happy Monday everyone!

Sunshine and Creeps

Today is my first friday as a married lady!

Time for sunshines and creeps!

Sunshine to BEING MARRIED! - I wasn't sure if it would feel different or if it would kind of be the same as before but it feels GREAT! I love being married so far. It just feels like we are a family now, there is just something about those vows that are so important.

Sunshine to getting our certified marriage license! I've used my lunch hours to switch things over ever since! I just need to do a few more credit cards and my driver's license. They, unfortunately, were closed the last portion of the week this week. We already did our banking and my social security cards!

Sunshine to a wonderful wedding weekend! It was a great weekend to get married in the great outdoors, minus a few bee stings, more on that later.

Sunshine to a great mini-moon! We went to Ross's parents' lake cabin and had a wonderful time. We went into town and did some shopping and lots of eating!

Sunshine to all of our wedding party making it to the wedding. Even my 9 month pregnant matron-of-honor! I can't believe she was able to make it! It was such a wonderful surprise.

You won't hear any creeps from me this week! It has been great!
